What We Are Learning About - Spring 1
“I therefore…beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.” Ephesians 4;1
Religion
Our current topic in Religion is “The Bible”, we be exploring the Bible and looking at books in both the Old and New Testament. We will examine the different syles of writing and the intended audience of each book in the Bible. Through examining the variety of audiences we can delve deeper into the meaning of the scripture and why it is relevant to us all in different ways. As always our weekly Class Liturgy will be led by the children.
The Bible - Knowledge Organiser
Pentecost - Knowledge Organiser
English
Our class novels this half term will be the books “Who let the Gods out?” and “Can you see me?”. We begin the term writing a persuasive letter about deforestation, then moving onto a non-foction text about the Ancient Olympic games. We will be building upin our reading skills and really working hard on how to infer the meaning of a text alongside how to summarise what we have read.
Maths
We begin the term focusing on ratio and how this can help us in wide range of scenarios. The children will continue to improve their knowledge of arithmetic through our daily “ Super 6” questions. We will then move onto fractions and units of measure. We will use this knowledge and apply it to a variety of question styles, concentrating first on fluency and then progressing on to reasoning and problem solving questions. As always we promote oracy in this subject and the children will be using this skill to explain to their peers, how and why they have used methods, ultimately furthering and imbedding their learning.
Booster Lessons
Beginning on Tuesday 21st January we will be running booster lessons to support any child who feels they may need it. These lessons will run from 8.00-8.30 each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
What You Need to Know
Homework will be given on Monday to reflect the week’s learning. Homework will often cover Numeracy, Literacy, and a list of spellings in preparation for the Grand Spell each Friday.
Children are also expected to read and practise their times tables every night.
Please send your child in their PE kit on Fridays for PE lessons. PE kit is a plain white t-shirt with dark trainers or pumps, and blue or black shorts. Plain black or blue tracksuit bottoms may be worn in the winter.
Please also provide your child with a hooded coat so they can stay warm during playtime.
