What We Are Learning About - Summer 1
“I therefore…beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.” Ephesians 4;1
Year 6 Booster Sessions
These run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning from 8.00am - 8.30am.
Religion
Throughout this term, we will be looking at the theme of “Desert to Garden.” The children will be exploring the importance of prayer duirng Lent, why this is important to us and how this helped Jesus in his life. We will also be reflecting Christ's journey and temptation in the desert. This unit provides a wonderful opportunity for the students to discuss the importance of trust, the qualities of a good leader, and the significant impact prayer can have on our lives.
English
Throughout this half term, our English lessons will be packed with reading and writing activities as we prepare the children for their upcoming SATs. We will be reading the conclusion to "When the Sky Falls" and using it as a powerful inspiration for our writing. The children will be stepping into the shoes of the main character to draft a deeply emotional letter from Joseph to his father. As developing strong comprehension skills is so important in the build up to SATs, we will also be diving into a wonderful new book called "The First Year" by Matt Goodfellow. While we explore these brilliant texts together, the class will be practising vital reading skills—such as inferring meaning, understanding vocabulary in context, and retrieving information—which will ensure they feel completely confident and ready for high school.
Maths
This half term in maths, our primary focus is ensuring all students feel confident and fully prepared as we approach the upcoming SATs. To build a strong foundation, we will be working daily on core arithmetic skills, helping the children become quick and accurate with their essential calculations. Alongside this targeted revision of key mathematical concepts, we will also be challenging the students to deepen their understanding and application of maths through complex reasoning questions. By encouraging them to explain their methods, tackle multi-step problems, and prove their answers, we aim to develop their critical thinking skills and build their overall mathematical resilience.
