What We Are Learning About - Autumn 2
“I therefore…beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.” Ephesians 4;1
Religion
Our current topic in Religion is “Baptism”, we will review how through his baptism Jesus responded to the call from his Father and began his vocation. We will examine what a vocation is and which jobs the children believe to be a vocation. We then move onto looking at the vocation of a Priest and their call to religious life, the children will get the chance to interview our Parish Priest and questions about his ordination. Through examining vows of service to others and God we will look at our own mission in living out our baptismal vows. As always our weekly Class Liturgy will be led by the children.

English
Our class novels this half term will be the books “Orphans of the Tide” and “Little Badman”. We begin the term writing a non-fiction piece of writing and then move onto some poetry. As a stimulus for our poetry we will be reading the book, “The Final Year” by Matt Goodfellow.
Maths
We begin the term focusing on use of and conversion of metric units of measure. The children will continue to improve their knowledge of arithmetic through our daily “ Super 6” questions. We will then move onto ratio and algebra. We will use this knowledge and apply it to a variety of question styles, concentrating first on fluency and then progressing on to reasoning and problem solving questions. As always we promote oracy in this subject and the children will be using this skill to explain to their peers, how and why they have used methods, ultimately furthering and imbedding their learning.
What You Need to Know
Homework will be given on Monday to reflect the week’s learning. Homework will often cover Numeracy, Literacy, and a list of spellings in preparation for the Grand Spell each Friday.
Children are also expected to read and practise their times tables every night.
Please send your child in their PE kit on Fridays for PE lessons. PE kit is a plain white t-shirt with dark trainers or pumps, and blue or black shorts. Plain black or blue tracksuit bottoms may be worn in the winter.
Please also provide your child with a hooded coat so they can stay warm during playtime.
