Reminders:

  • Please send your child in their PE kit on Fridays (swimming kit in a bag on Wednesdays).
  • PE kit is a plain white t-shirt with dark trainers or pumps, and blue or black shorts. Plain black or blue tracksuit bottoms may be worn in the winter.
  • On Wednesdays, we have swimming lessons, so don’t forget to bring your kit and a towel!
  • Homework will be given on Fridays to reflect the week’s learning.
  • Children will also practice spellings for the Grand Spell each Friday.
  • Reading books will be changed when the children have read them and they have been signed by an adult. Please make sure the children are reading regularly to practise their skills. We encourage all our children to read for at least 10 minutes every day outside of the classroom.

Y4 Multiplication Check - June 2026

In Year 4, the children complete a multiplication check test. This will be completed on a tablet/iPad and it consists of the children answering 25 times tables facts (multiplication only) with 6 seconds to answer each one. There is no pass or fail mark but the children should be constantly learning and revising their times tables up to 12 times 12 as much as possible. Children will be practising in school on TT Rock Stars and they will be completing the 'Soundcheck' option, as this is timed just like the multiplication check. If they could also practise at home on TT Rock Stars, this would be a great help!

Year 4 Spring Curriculum Overview:

Religion - In RE, pupils will explore key events and beliefs connected to the Eucharist.

They will retell the story of the Feeding of the Five Thousand and recall the words and actions of Jesus at the Last Supper, making links between this miracle and the sharing of the loaves. Children will learn how Jesus showed his love at the Last Supper and how this love continues to be shared through the celebration of First Holy Communion. They will make connections between the story of the Last Supper and the Mass, understanding that the Church teaches the Eucharist is the special meeting point where God gives himself to believers as the Body of Christ, uniting them more closely as part of the Church.

Pupils will also describe in increasing detail the prayers, signs and actions of the Mass, particularly during the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and give reasons for the symbols and actions used, making clear links between belief and practice.

English - In Spring 2, Year 4 will be studying The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis.

Throughout the unit, children will explore the characters and setting of Narnia in depth, developing their descriptive writing skills to create vivid character portraits and atmospheric setting descriptions. They will write creatively from different viewpoints, including composing a formal edict from the White Witch ordering the search for trespassers in Narnia.

The unit will also include work on persuasive writing, where pupils will learn to structure arguments effectively, as well as taking part in class debates to build their speaking, listening and reasoning skills.

Maths -  In the Spring 2, Year 4 children will be learning about fractions. During this unit, they will build on their existing knowledge to develop a deeper understanding of fractions by recognising and showing equivalent fractions using diagrams, models and number lines, counting up and down in hundredths, and understanding how hundredths are created by dividing by 100 or by dividing tenths by 10. They will also add and subtract fractions with the same denominator, find fractions of quantities, and explore the link between fractions and decimals, including tenths and hundredths. Throughout the block, children will use practical resources and visual representations to support their reasoning, explain their thinking clearly, and apply their understanding to a range of problem-solving contexts.
