What You Need to Know

 

Homework will be given on Fridays to reflect the week’s learning. Homework will often cover Numeracy, Literacy, and a list of spellings in preparation for the Grand Spell each Friday.


The current school wide expectation is that children are expected to read for 5 minutes and practise their times tables every night. 


Please send your child in their PE kit for PE lessons. PE kit is a plain white t-shirt with dark trainers or pumps, and blue or black shorts. Plain black or blue tracksuit bottoms may be worn in the winter.

Please also provide your child with a hooded coat so they can stay warm during playtime.

In the summer months, caps can be worn when outside.

Reading advice for parents.

What we are learning in Spring 2:

Maths- This term children will learn; 
 

  • Understand thousandths and round decimals

  •  Compare and order decimal numbers

  •  Convert between fractions, decimals and percentages

  •  Find percentages of amounts

  •  Use percentages in real-life contexts such as money and measures

     

  • Calculate the perimeter of rectangles and compound shapes using (length x width)
  • Find missing side lengths
  • Solve reasoning and problem solving equations involving perimeter and area
  • Read and interpret graphs (line and tables)
  • Solve comparison, sum and difference problems using data
  • Ask and answer questions drawing conclusions about sets of data
  •  

English-This term, pupils will:

  •  Design and invent their own dragon to write a chronological report about 
  • Explore the features of writing a non-chronological report including: writing in a formal tone, organising information into clear paragraphs with titles and subtitles, creating diagrams and pictures and using technical vocabulary and factual language.
  • Write a clear set of instructions for a new hen inspired by Mr Bunny's chocolate factory 
  • Explore the features of writing a set of instructions including; a clear title and introduction, imperative verbs, chronological order, time connectives, bullet points and helpful tips or warnings. 
  •  Build comprehension skills through retrieval, inference, and discussion during guided reading. 
  •  Continue to improve spelling, handwriting and presentation.


Science- This term, pupils will:

  • Understand what global warming is and how it links to climate change 

  • Learn about the Greenhouse effect, how humans effect and earth and the impact of rising temperatures on; habitats, wildlife and weather patterns.
  • How individuals and communities can reduce their environmental impact.
  • Compare and group materials based on their properties 
  • Explore thermal and electrical conductivity 
  • Investigate dissolving, reversible and irreversible changes
  • Plan and carry out fair tests 
  • Record, present and interpret results using scientific language. 


Religion- This term pupils will explore key elements of Christian belief and practice, focusing on prayer, discipleship and living according to God’s teachings by looking at;

  • The Rosary and how it is used as a form of prayer and reflection, exploring what it means to pray, different ways people pray, and how prayer can strengthen individuals and bring the community together.
  • Study Jesus’ journey from Galilee to Jerusalem, understanding its significance and the events leading up to Easter. They will also explore the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes, discussing how these teachings guide Christians in making moral choices and living a good life.
  • The unit will examine the meaning of Lent and Ash Wednesday, including why Christians pray, fast and give during this season. Pupils will reflect on how and why these events are celebrated and what they mean for believers today.

Throughout the unit, children will consider the qualities of kindness, forgiveness, humility and service, and how faith and prayer can positively impact the wider community.
