Homework will be given on Fridays to reflect the week’s learning. Homework will often cover Numeracy, Literacy, and a list of spellings in preparation for the Grand Spell each Friday.


The current school wide expectation is that children are expected to read for 5 minutes and practise their times tables every night. 


Please send your child in their PE kit for PE lessons. PE kit is a plain white t-shirt with dark trainers or pumps, and blue or black shorts. Plain black or blue tracksuit bottoms may be worn in the winter.

Please also provide your child with a hooded coat so they can stay warm during playtime.

In the summer months, caps can be worn when outside.

Reading advice for parents.

What we are learning in Autumn 1:

Maths- This term children will learn; 
 

  • Revise and consolidate place value in numbers up to 1,000,000.
  •  Develop fluency with comparing, ordering and rounding numbers.
  •  Secure written and mental methods for addition and subtraction with larger numbers.
  •  Begin multiplication and division strategies, including factors, multiples, and prime numbers.
  •  Explore problem-solving and reasoning tasks involving all four operations.
  •  

English-This term, pupils will:

  •  Read and respond through short pieces of writing to our class text ‘When ice cream had a meltdown’, 'Monster slayer' and 'Beowulf'
  •  Explore key features of persuasive writing, characterisation, and dialogue between characters. 
  •  Develop vocabulary choices and sentence variety to create impact in writing.
  •  Write their own adverts inspired by the class text, focusing on planning, drafting, editing, and improving.
  •  Practise grammar skills: repetition, alliteration, rhetorical questions, subjunctions, opinions, emotive language, speech and accurate punctuation. 
  •  Build comprehension skills through retrieval, inference, and discussion during guided reading. 
  •  Continue to improve spelling, handwriting and presentation.


Science- This term, pupils will:

  • Explore how plants reproduce and the effect this has on our environment. 
  •  Explore the differences in the life cycles of mammals, amphibians, insects and birds.
  •  Study how living things are classified into broad groups based on similarities and differences.
  •  Use keys and classification systems to identify plants and animals.
  •  Develop enquiry skills through observation and research.
  •  Understand the importance of habitats and the impact of environmental change.


Religion- This term, pupils will:

  • Explore Creation and Covenant in the way the God has made promises to his followers throughout the bible. 
  • Look at specific examples of this within scripture such as, Abraham, Joseph and Moses.
  • Explore how God created the world and everything in it, and how this shows us his love and care. 
  • Look at how these stories help us to understand how God has been guiding and looking after his people throughout history. 
  • Read scripture as a class and through class discussion understand the impact this still has on his followers and our beliefs today.
