Reminders:

  • Please send your child in their PE kit on Mondays and Fridays for 4C, and Mondays for 4H for PE lessons (Summer 1).
  • PE kit is a plain white t-shirt with dark trainers or pumps, and blue or black shorts. Plain black or blue tracksuit bottoms may be worn in the winter.
  • On Wednesdays, we have swimming lessons, so don’t forget to bring your kit and a towel!
  • Homework will be given on Fridays to reflect the week’s learning.
  • Children will also practice spellings for the Grand Spell each Friday, as well as their multiplication for the times tables test that takes place on Friday mornings.
  • Reading books will be changed when the children have read them and they have been signed by an adult. Please make sure the children are reading regularly to practise their skills. We encourage all our children to read for at least 10 minutes every day outside of the classroom.

Y4 Multiplication Check - June 2024

In Year 4, the children complete a multiplication check test. This will be completed on a tablet/iPad and it consists of the children answering 25 times tables facts (multiplication only) with 6 seconds to answer each one. There is no pass or fail mark but the children should be constantly learning and revising their times tables up to 12 times 12 as much as possible. Children will be practising in school on TT Rock Stars and they will be completing the 'Soundcheck' option, as this is timed just like the multiplication check. If they could also practise at home on TT Rock Stars, this would be a great help!

Year 4 Summer Curriculum Overview:

Religion - We are learning about the Pentecost and receiving the Holy Spirit. The children will be able to make links between the Pentecost story and the Christian belief in the new life of the Easter message through the power of the Holy Spirit. They will learn about how the coming of the Holy Spirit shapes the lives of Christians today.

English - We are focusing on non-fiction text types and writing. We will be writing an explanation text about how volcanoes erupt/how volcanoes are formed. This makes cross-curricular links with our Geography topic about volcanoes. We will also be looking at the book 'Escape from Pompeii' and we will write a newspaper report recounting the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

Maths - We are focusing on lots of small units of work - Money, Time, Shape, and Statistics. For Money, we will be comparing amounts and converting between pounds and pence. For Time, we will be converting between the 12 hour and 24 hour clock. For Shape, will be looking at different angles and polygons. Finally, for Statistics, we will look at interpreting graphs and charts.
