Reminders:

  • Please send your child in their PE kit on Fridays (swimming kit in a bag on Wednesdays).
  • PE kit is a plain white t-shirt with dark trainers or pumps, and blue or black shorts. Plain black or blue tracksuit bottoms may be worn in the winter.
  • On Wednesdays, we have swimming lessons, so don’t forget to bring your kit and a towel!
  • Homework will be given on Fridays to reflect the week’s learning.
  • Children will also practice spellings for the Grand Spell each Friday.
  • Reading books will be changed when the children have read them and they have been signed by an adult. Please make sure the children are reading regularly to practise their skills. We encourage all our children to read for at least 10 minutes every day outside of the classroom.

Y4 Multiplication Check - June 2026

In Year 4, the children complete a multiplication check test. This will be completed on a tablet/iPad and it consists of the children answering 25 times tables facts (multiplication only) with 6 seconds to answer each one. There is no pass or fail mark but the children should be constantly learning and revising their times tables up to 12 times 12 as much as possible. Children will be practising in school on TT Rock Stars and they will be completing the 'Soundcheck' option, as this is timed just like the multiplication check. If they could also practise at home on TT Rock Stars, this would be a great help!

Year 4 Summer Curriculum Overview:

Religion Year 4 pupils will follow the Catholic Religious Education Directory (RED) using Oxford University Press' Lighting the Path and Source to Summit resources. Pupils will explore key aspects of their faith through Scripture, reflection and discussion, developing their understanding of God’s relationship with humanity and how Christians are called to live. Children will have opportunities to explore Biblical stories, deepen their knowledge of Catholic beliefs and traditions, and reflect on how they can apply these teachings to their own lives.

EnglishYear 4 pupils will develop their reading and writing skills through Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters. They will explore the characters, themes and language of the story before planning and writing their own alternative ending. Pupils will focus on using descriptive language, engaging vocabulary and appropriate grammatical features. Later in the term, children will explore performance poetry, developing confidence in reading aloud and using expression, rhythm and actions to engage an audience.

Maths During the first Autumn Term, Year 4 pupils will follow the White Rose Maths scheme, focusing on Place Value and Addition and Subtraction. Pupils will develop their understanding of numbers up to 10,000, learning to recognise the value of each digit, represent numbers in different ways, compare and order numbers, and round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000. They will also develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills by applying their understanding of place value in a range of contexts.

Pupils will then build on their previous learning of addition and subtraction by using formal written methods and mental strategies to calculate efficiently. They will learn to add and subtract numbers with up to four digits, including calculations involving exchanges, and apply these skills to solve a variety of reasoning and problem-solving questions.
